Hon. Mustapha Ussif

Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Ghana

Mustapha Ussif hails from Tantala in the North East Region of Ghana.

 

He was born in Tamale on 16th August 1979. From a humble beginning, Mustapha started his education at the Koforidua Primary and Junior Secondary School and then to Salaga Secondary School.

 

In 1998, Mustapha gained admission to study at Bagabaga Teacher Training College, where he earned a Certificate ‘A’. He taught at the then Watania Junior Secondary School in Tamale for 3 years.

 

In 2007, Mustapha gained admission and pursued further studies in International Business Management (BA Hons) at the Anglia Ruskin University at Chelmsford in the UK. About the same time, he pursued and earned an Executive Certificate in Management Development at the University of Wales.

 

Mustapha also holds an MBA in Finance with distinction from the University of Gloucestershire in the UK and an Executive Certificate in Minerals Policy and Contract Negotiations from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

Before joining the Parliament of Ghana as the Representative of the Yagaba/Kubori Constituency in the North East Region of Ghana, Mustapha freelanced as a Consultant to Action Aid, UK.

 

Whiles a Member of Parliament for the Yagaba/Kubori Constituency between 2012 & 2016, he was an active member of the Mines and Energy Committee that birthed the National Petroleum Act, 2016 (Act 919).

 

Mustapha is passionate about human development and hopes to seize the opportunity offered him by H.E. Nana Addo Danquah  Akuffo-Addo as the Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme to realize his passion for impacting the lives of the many Ghanaian Youth.

 

At the Scheme, he implemented several policies that created a conducive atmosphere for personnel to carry out their mandatory 12 months of service effectively and efficiently to Mother Ghana.

 

Policies such as Paperless Registration System, Digital Certificate System, Online Certificate Delivery Services, Online User Agency Request, Online Authentication of Identity, Online Ezwitch Verification and Authentication System, Digitization of Monthly and Annual Evaluation, Entrepreneurship and Evaluation Module, NSS Training Hub, Covid-19 Resilience Programme, among others were all implanted under his capable leadership.

 

Mustapha successfully made it back to the 8th Parliament to represent the people of Yagaba/Kubori on 7th January 2021. He was then appointed by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as the Minister for Youth and Sports and have since been serving in that capacity to date.

 

Mustapha Ussif is widely known for his humility, accessibility, dedication, commitment to his work and country, passionate and above all, God-fearing. He is tipped to transform the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the coming years.
